Senior Indian Postal Service (IPoS) officer Ramchandra Kisan Jayabhaye has taken charge as the Chief Postmaster General (CPMG) of the Maharashtra Circle, bringing more than 25 years of experience in postal administration, financial services and technology-driven governance to one of India’s oldest postal circles.

A 2000-batch IPoS officer, Jayabhaye officially assumed office on July 9. Before his appointment, he served as General Manager (Operations) at the Postal Life Insurance (PLI) Directorate in New Delhi, where he played a key role in developing the core Insurance Management System (IMS), supporting the modernisation of postal insurance services.

During his distinguished career, Jayabhaye has held several important assignments across the country. While serving in the Chhattisgarh Circle, he expanded postal connectivity in Left Wing Extremism (LWE)-affected areas by facilitating the opening of 391 Branch Post Offices, improving access to postal and financial services in remote regions. He has also served with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), gaining extensive experience in financial administration and institutional management.

The Maharashtra Circle traces its origins to the British era and remains one of India’s oldest postal circles. At the heart of this legacy stands the iconic Mumbai General Post Office (GPO), a landmark heritage building renowned for its magnificent Indo-Saracenic architecture and enduring contribution to the nation’s postal history.

As Chief Postmaster General, Jayabhaye will lead one of India Post’s largest and most historically significant postal circles, with responsibilities that include improving operational efficiency, expanding financial inclusion and advancing digital transformation initiatives across Maharashtra.
