By Shreya Rathod
The popular horror-comedy franchise Stree is set to return with its third instalment in 2028, producer Dinesh Vijan has confirmed. The announcement was made during FICCI Frames in Mumbai, where Vijan also revealed that director Amar Kaushik has completed the script for Stree 3.
The film was earlier expected to release on August 13, 2027. However, the makers have now moved the release to 2028. An exact theatrical release date has not yet been announced, although Vijan indicated that the film could arrive around Independence Day or Christmas.
Kaushik will return to the Stree franchise after completing Mahavatar, his upcoming mythological film starring Vicky Kaushal. According to Vijan, Mahavatar is scheduled to be shot before the team begins work on Stree 3 towards the end of 2027.
Vijan has kept the storyline under wraps but said the new film will retain the elements audiences have enjoyed in the earlier instalments while taking the story in an unexpected direction.
Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor are expected to return for the third chapter, continuing their association with the franchise. The original Stree was released in 2018, followed by Stree 2 in 2024.
