Governor, Education Minister Review NEP and University Policy in Meeting

Minister for Higher and Technical Education Chandrakant Patil met Maharashtra Governor and Chancellor of State Universities C. P. Radhakrishnan at Raj Bhavan on Wednesday, 18 June, to discuss key issues related to the state’s higher education sector.

  During the meeting, a wide range of topics concerning the development and reform of universities across Maharashtra were discussed. These included recruitment for teaching and non-teaching positions, appointments to statutory posts, and the overall achievements of the Higher and Technical Education Department during the first 100 days of the government’s current term.

  The discussion also focused on the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP), strengthening apprenticeship-embedded degree programmes, collaboration with Skill University, administrative reforms in universities, and the improvement of hostel facilities for students across all degree programmes.

  Governor Radhakrishnan informed the Minister that he would soon convene a meeting of the Joint Board of Vice Chancellors to review and deliberate on challenges and opportunities facing the state universities. He also mentioned plans to visit agriculture universities along with the State Agriculture Minister to observe the progress of agricultural research and innovation being undertaken.

  Present at the meeting were Additional Chief Secretary (Higher and Technical Education) B. Venugopal Reddy; Secretary to the Governor Dr. Prashant Narnaware; Director of Higher Education Dr. Shailendra Deolankar; Director of Technical Education Dr. Vinod Mohitkar; and Deputy Secretary to the Governor S. Ramamoorthy.
