Recently, Mumbai hosted the Russian Film Festival, a vibrant celebration of Russian cinema’s rich legacy and modern achievements. Held at Cinepolis Fun Republic, Andheri, the event brought together actors, cinephiles, and cultural enthusiasts from both India and Russia.
Organized in collaboration with Roskino, the Russian Ministry of Culture, and local partners, the festival showcased a variety of films, from musical sports melodramas to sci-fi. The festival kicked off on December 12th with the opening film Triumph, captivating audiences with its inspiring story and breathtaking visuals.
Following its success in Mumbai, the festival moved to Delhi on December 13th to be shown at Cinepolis, Saket, continuing its celebration of Russian cinema. Attendees enjoyed courtesy soft drinks and popcorn, with feedback forms provided after each screening. All films were subtitled in English, ensuring accessibility and expanding the reach of Russian cinema.
The festival concluded in Mumbai with a screening of the sci-fi film The Guest from the Future, directed by Aleksandr Andryushchenko, based on the 1978 Soviet novel One Hundred Years Ahead by Kir Bulychev.
Chief coordinator Mohammad Irfan Jamiawala and festival director Rabiat Baysoltanovna Osaeva thanked the audience for their passion and enthusiasm for Russian cinema. “This festival celebrates our mutual love for cinema,” Osaeva remarked.
The event’s success highlights the growing cultural exchange between India and Russia, underscoring the power of cinema in bridging cultures and strengthening the ties between the two nations.
