During his recent state visit to India, President of Chile Gabriel Boric met Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai. The meeting was a courtesy visit.

President Boric, expressing his admiration for India, a country he has long been fascinated by, highlighted that Chile could serve as India’s gateway to South America. He also shared his satisfaction after meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the two countries.

The 39-year-old president emphasized Chile’s eagerness to strengthen economic and commercial ties with India, while also looking to learn from India’s rich culture and deepen collaboration with India’s agro-industries.

Recalling the success of the Bollywood film Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara in boosting tourism to Spain, President Boric suggested a joint collaboration in filmmaking between India and Chile. He extended an invitation for Bollywood productions to consider Chile’s stunning, exotic locations for future film shoots, hoping that this partnership would raise Chile’s tourist profile in India. He also expressed optimism that the opening of the Navi Mumbai International Airport would facilitate direct connectivity between the two nations.

Governor Radhakrishnan, in welcoming President Boric to Maharashtra, noted that tourism and trade have the potential to significantly strengthen ties between India and Chile.

The meeting was also attended by Chile’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Alberto Van Klaveren, Ambassador to India Juan Angulo, Minister of Culture Carolina Arredondo, and President Boric’s Adviser for International Affairs Carlos Figueroa.
