In a significant move, strengthening its international connectivity, IndiGo has officially launched direct flight services between Mumbai and Amsterdam, marking a significant milestone in its European expansion. The inaugural flight took off earlier this week from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, linking India’s financial capital with one of Europe’s busiest aviation hubs.

With this new route, IndiGo continues to expand its footprint across key global destinations under its international growth strategy. The Mumbai–Amsterdam connection is expected to serve both business and leisure travellers, and also provide convenient onward connections via Amsterdam to other major cities in Europe and North America.

Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo, speaking on the launch, said, “We are delighted to connect Mumbai directly with Amsterdam, a city known for its rich culture, commerce, and connectivity. This new route underlines our commitment to enhancing global reach and providing seamless travel experiences to our passengers.”

The direct service will be operated using the airline’s wide-body Airbus A321XLR aircraft, ensuring comfort and efficiency for long-haul travellers. The flight is expected to operate several times a week, though the exact frequency may vary depending on demand and operational scheduling.

Travel and trade analysts have welcomed the new service, noting that it will further boost economic and tourism ties between India and the Netherlands. The route is also seen as an opportunity for improved cargo movement, particularly for pharmaceuticals, electronics, and perishables.

IndiGo’s move aligns with the growing trend of Indian carriers tapping into long-haul international markets, aiming to offer competitive alternatives to foreign airlines. With increasing demand for direct flights from major Indian metros to Europe, the Mumbai–Amsterdam connection is likely to be a popular addition to IndiGo’s international network.
