The Department of Posts, Maharashtra Circle, on Tuesday organized a landmark event at the Mumbai General Post Office (GPO), marking the rollout of 200 electric bikes for postal staff, the release of two Special Postal Covers, and the launch of the “Sandese Veeron Ko” Postcard Campaign.

The ceremony was attended by Amruta Fadnavis, Amitabh Singh, Chief Postmaster General, Maharashtra Circle, Manoj Kumar, Director Postal Services (Mails & Business Development), Ms. Simran Kaur, Director Postal Services (Headquarters), Rekha Rizvi, Director, Mumbai GPO, and Madhu Raghunathan, CEO, myTVS.

Amitabh Singh released a Special Postal Cover on the occasion of the rollout of 200 e-bikes for postman and postwoman and presented the first album to Smt. Amruta Fadnavis. He said India Post has been a backbone of last-mile delivery and the introduction of e-bikes in the Mumbai Region will improve efficiency, reduce delivery time, and ease physical strain on staff while promoting low-emission operations and modern, citizen-centric services.

He also released another Special Postal Cover commemorating the 1971 Battle of Longewala, where the 23 PUNJAB regiment and the Indian Air Force’s 122 Squadron repelled a major Pakistani offensive. The cover features visuals linked to the upcoming film ‘Border 2’, blending historical tribute with contemporary storytelling.

The event also saw the launch of the “Sandese Veeron Ko” Postcard Campaign, inviting citizens and students to write messages of gratitude and support to the nation’s soldiers. These postcards will be collected and delivered through India Post’s vast network, strengthening the bond between the armed forces and the public.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Amitabh Singh said traditional letter mail has declined while parcel volumes have increased manifold. To meet this growing demand efficiently and sustainably, the department has introduced e-bikes as part of its Smart Mobility Initiative.

Amruta Fadnavis appreciated the eco-friendly initiative and highlighted its importance in empowering women and strengthening public service delivery. She said India Post continues to uphold its legacy as one of the country’s oldest and most trusted institutions while embracing modern, green solutions. The programme concluded with Amruta Fadnavis flagging off the e-bikes from the Mumbai GPO, marking the formal launch of the initiative.
