India and China have taken another step towards stabilising bilateral relations, with National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi holding the 25th round of Special Representatives’ talks on the boundary question in Beijing on August 25.
The meeting focused on the long-standing boundary issue and measures to maintain peace and stability along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). The discussions assume significance as both countries continue efforts to strengthen bilateral engagement following years of tensions along the border.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the two sides reached an eight-point outcome and consensus following the talks. The understanding includes measures aimed at strengthening communication, managing differences and creating conditions for greater stability in India-China relations.
The Special Representatives emphasised the importance of maintaining peace and tranquillity in the border areas while continuing efforts towards a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable resolution of the boundary question. Strengthened communication mechanisms are expected to help the two sides deal with situations arising along the frontier and prevent local incidents from escalating.
The discussions between Doval and Wang also underline the importance of sustained political dialogue between New Delhi and Beijing. The Special Representatives’ mechanism remains a key channel for addressing the boundary issue and discussing measures to maintain stability along the frontier.
The latest meeting comes amid renewed diplomatic engagement between India and China. The eight-point understanding is expected to provide a framework for continued dialogue and practical coordination, while the broader boundary dispute remains unresolved.
For both countries, maintaining peace and stability along the border remains essential to building mutual confidence and creating greater space for wider bilateral cooperation.
