Gold seized by Chennai Air Customs

Chennai Air customs intercepted seven passengers who arrived from Dubai by Air India Express flight IX 1644. While searching the baggage trolley of Rahuman Hameed 25, resident of Ramanathapuram and Mohamed Niyas, 33 residents of Chennai were found carrying gold in their possession.

There were 22 gold cut bits (11 each) wrapped in black adhesive tape. This gold was found ingeniously concealed in the hollow pipes of trolleys. The custom officials recovered and seized the smuggled gold which was weighing 600 grams. Mohammad Niyas was arrested as he had an earlier offence registered against him.

Besides, on personal search of Ragamath Ali aged 53, Jameel Ahamed aged 45, Mohamed Mussammil aged 26, Syed Mujahideen aged 26 resident of Ramanathapuram and Mohamed Ibrahim aged 53, resident of Chennai. They were found in the possession of five bundles of gold paste concealed in rectum, which was recovered. It was weighing 681 grams; on extraction it yielded 522 grams of 24K purity gold.

In another incident, a person namely Abdul Hakkim aged 53, resident of Ramanathapuram, arrived from Dubai by Emirates EK542. He was intercepted at exit point. On personal search, two long plastic pouches containing gold paste weighing 164 grams were found ingeniously stitched inside the length of his jeans were recovered. On   extraction 138 grams of 24K purity was recovered and seized. Further investigation is under progress.
