Virar police have arrested a man for allegedly suffocating his wife to death. Sources said Ajay Harbajan Singh, 35, a resident of Gopcharpada in Virar East, has confessed to the crime.
An investigation has revealed that the deceased, Ruby, was previously married to a man with whom she had three children. Later, she got married to Ajay and gave birth to a boy. The accused was also previously married.
Ruby’s elder sister along with her family stays on the ground floor of the same building where the couple resided.
Previously, Ajay had fled with Ruby’s elder niece, following which, a case was registered with the police and he was arrested.
After getting released from jail, he started to live with his wife again but he would beat her up, said a police officer.
On Tuesday night, Ruby’s younger sister, who lives nearby, visited her house and saw her lying on the bed in an unconscious state.
Blood was oozing from her nose and mouth.
She informed her brother, who rushed to the spot along with his wife. They spotted Ajay sitting on a chair in another room and asked him what had happened. On getting no response from him, they sensed that he might have killed Ruby.
Her brother told the police that he had seen Ajay search the Internet for information on ways to kill a person. Meanwhile, a neighbour informed the local police. The police said that during interrogation Ajay confessed to the crime.
