Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry celebrated its 99th Foundation Day in Mumbai on Tuesday, with Jishnu Dev Varma presiding over the समारोह and felicitating past presidents of the apex industry body.
Founded in Mumbai at the instance of Mahatma Gandhi, FICCI is set to celebrate its centenary in 2027. The event brought together leading industrialists, policymakers, and key stakeholders from across sectors.
Complimenting FICCI for its contribution to nation-building, the Governor highlighted the far-reaching economic impact of the ongoing Middle East conflict, noting that it has affected countries and individuals across the globe. He called upon the chamber to commission comprehensive studies to assess the sector-wise impact of the crisis on the Indian economy.
He further urged FICCI to recommend measures to mitigate the challenges faced by vulnerable sections, particularly the poor and marginalised communities. Emphasising the importance of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and the services sector, he stressed the need for focused analysis on how these segments are being affected.
In his capacity as Chancellor of state universities, the Governor also encouraged FICCI to strengthen collaboration with academic institutions across Maharashtra, fostering research and innovation-driven growth.
On the occasion, former FICCI Presidents including Rajiv Bharti Mittal, Harsh Pati Singhania, Rajeev Chandrasekhar and Habil Khorakiwala, among others, were felicitated for their contributions to industry over the past three decades.
Minister of Protocol Jaykumar Rawal, FICCI President Anant Goenka, Senior Vice President Vijay Sankar and Director General Jyoti Vij were present along with prominent industry leaders.
