At least four people were killed and few others were injured after a major fire broke out at a hospital in Maharashtra’s Nagpur on Friday night.
The blaze broke out around 8:10 pm in the AC unit of the ICU located on the second floor of the Well Treat hospital.
Soon after the incident, the fire and civic officials, rescue team rushed to the spot.
Police said that around 27 patients at the hospital were shifted to other hospitals.
“The fire reportedly started from an AC unit of the ICU located on the second floor of the hospital. The blaze remained confined to that floor and did not spread further,” Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s (NMC) chief fire officer Rajendra Uchke said, adding that it is a non-COVID hospital.
“There were 10 patients on the second floor when the fire erupted. While six patients came out on their own, four others were rescued by the fire brigade personnel,” he added.
According to a publication, there were 18 staff members and they had a miraculous escape.
“Three dead bodies have been brought to Government Medical College & Hospital,” Dr Avinash Gawande, Medical Superintendent, GMC, Nagpur.
