China marked the 76th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with India, highlighting the importance of strengthening ties between the two neighbouring countries.

In a statement shared by His Excellency Xu Feihong, the Chinese Ambassador to India, the milestone was described as an opportunity to reaffirm cooperation and mutual growth. Ambassador Xu said:

“China and India are neighbours that cannot be moved apart. It is in the shared interest of both countries to remain good‑neighbourly friends and partners that help each other succeed.”

Referring to the idea of a “Dragon-Elephant Tango,” Ambassador Xu highlighted the potential for the two Asian giants to collaborate more closely across economic, cultural, and strategic domains. China also expressed readiness to deepen practical cooperation, enhance people-to-people exchanges, and strengthen coordination on multilateral platforms, aiming to contribute to the development and progress of the Global South.

Diplomatic relations between India and China were formally established in 1950. Over the decades, the relationship has seen steady growth, with trade and investment forming major pillars of engagement. Bilateral trade has reached hundreds of billions of dollars in recent years, while cultural and educational exchanges, tourism, and scientific collaboration have further strengthened mutual understanding and friendship.

The anniversary comes at a time of evolving regional and global dynamics, making cooperation between two of the world’s largest economies increasingly significant. Coordination in multilateral forums such as BRICS, G20, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation remains a key avenue for both nations to influence regional stability and global development.

As India and China mark more than seven decades of diplomatic ties, Ambassador Xu reiterated that sustained dialogue, practical cooperation, and mutual respect are essential for the future of bilateral relations, regional progress, and global economic growth.
